MZN ART
Marilynn Zabriskie Nielson always wanted to be an artist, even though there were many obstacles slowing down the process. It wasn’t until moving to beautiful Heber Valley, retiring from years of teaching, and then receiving much encouragement from family and friends that it became a reality.
Marilynn graduated from BYU with a Bachelor of Arts Degree and then received Master’s Degrees from Utah State and BYU. She taught school for many years and retired as principal of Midway Elementary School in 1998. She spent the next year and a half in Melbourne, Australia with her husband, and then returned home determined that now was the time to get serious about art.
Marilynn became a charter member and officer in the Midway Art Association in 2002. Through this group she was able to attend numerous workshops and learn from some fine artists: John Hughes, Steve McGinty, Melodie Williams, Linda Curley Christensen, Ron Chesley and George Handrahan, She studied Russian Impressionism at two consecutive Fall Retreats with the “Troica” (Torgie Murdock, Anne Marie Oborn and Vickie Reese). She studied the style of the old masters with Frank Covino. She has been privileged to work under the competent tutelage of Ron Chesley for the past year.
She has had an active part in bringing Plein Air Paradise to the valley. This art competition attracts many artists and has become a successful event.
Her art has been on display at:
Springville Museum of Art,
The Joseph Smith Memorial Building (Deseret News Landscape Competition) Midway Plein Air Paradise for four years
