i would rather be a hammer than a nail
i would rather be a hammer than a nail by brent haddock, 12×18 intaglio-type etching, $350 unframed
This etching was also inspired by tools that artists use. This was a good direction for an old lithographer who has tired of trying to make reticulated washes using tusche (a greasy substance) on limestone. I chose to make a reticulated wash using copy machine toner (used is best) that is mixed with Future floor wax and rubbing alcohol. This mixture is painted as a wash on mylar film. When dry, the toner reticulates creating marvelous patterns and textures. The hammer, why not? I have hand-colored the hammer in a few prints in this variable edition. ~ brent
